Mechanical Keyboard VS Membrane Keyboard...

For those keyboard enthusiasts that I have met before, they are all pretty crazy about mechanical keyboard. They would spend tons on a few of them even though they have only one desktop to use. I wonder why is that so. However, after my cousin gift one to me, I realize that mechanical keyboard is indeed a pleasure to type on. The keys are somewhat easier to press and the sound is not as irritating as the sound produce by the membrane keyboard that I used at work.

Typing has been always a chore, no matter it is at work or at home. I had a habit of writing things down and I definitely prefer to write more than type. However, I realize that, perhaps it is because the keyboard I have been using. At work, I am using a dell membrane keyboard, not only the sound is loud, it is also quite irritating. The keys are definitely sticky after years and years of usage. Furthermore, the way you press the key will affect the sound that the keys produce. If you tap it with a slight force, it would produce a loud sound which was quite irritating to me. For my work, it require me to be by my computer more than 8 hours per day. Not only I am sick of the small monitor which is perhaps 13inch, I am tired of the mouse which is sticky and greasy. At home I was required to type daily on my membrane keyboard, though it is not as bad as the ones I had at work. It is just not as satisfying as typing on a mechanical keyboard.

However, I have read comments about membrane keyboards being far more technologically advance as compared to a mechanical keyboard. One example was "Oh! So you are saying that the antique keyboards are much better than the technologically more advance ones?" Even though I am not sure which keyboards are considered more technologically advance, I feel that it really doesn't matter. What matters more is how you feel when you are typing on the keyboard, be it long hours or just a short period of time during work. How comfortable you are when you are using the keyboard of your choice? Perhaps this would be a more relevant concern rather than which being more technologically advance. We all tend to assume that when something is more technologically advance, it has to be far more superior in terms of build and quality and, therefore, would be better for us to use them. However, it is not always the case, there are always the pros and cons of an item, be it being technologically more advance or not. We should consider more towards how relevant is the item to use, will it be able to satisfy our needs or whether we will be comfortable using the item. Perhaps if you are a reviewer of the IT products, you may have a different perspective. After all you will need to introduce the specifications, functions and the improvements of the products to your audience. However, for consumers, please think about yourself and your environment before your purchase of the item.

Apart from that, I can say pretty safely that I will probably not going to use membrane keyboard ever again. Of course, I have no choice at work. However, as long as I can, I will not use membrane keyboard when I am typing at home. Unless this particular mechanical keyboard that is given to me die suddenly, then perhaps it will leave me no choice.

To end this, it's just boils down to personal preference. I have seen many people at work type fine with membrane keyboard. They don't even know the existence of mechanical keyboard. When you tell them stuffs on technology, their brains just switch off automatically. Hence, you definitely can survive your whole life using a membrane keyboard. However, for those of you who wants a better typing experience, be sure to give mechanical keyboard a try. You won't regret that.
