"What belongs to you really doesn't." I am not too sure where do I hear this saying from, however, I find it to be rather true, especially at our era. There have been quite a number of news recently about internet security and privacy in general. A lot would like to take control of the data available on the internet for various purposes (be it good or bad). But the key point is: These data may not belong to them. In fact, it belongs to us.
Now, let's just start from the beginning. Information you may find on the web are fed up by someone else in some part of the world. Even now, when I am typing this post, I am currently feeding my opinions on my blog which is accessible to people who has the link or come across this incidentally. This information belongs to someone and it doesn't pop up from nowhere. However, most of the time when you use the web, it is easy to overlook this fact as it is not explicitly showing that people are involve in providing their data, information, opinions, knowledge and other relevant information on the web itself. Hence, there are some people who think that having others using the information which belongs to you on the web infringes your human rights. It is not the completely wrong way of thinking, especially when there are people who embraces technology and constantly giving their information to websites in order to access others' information and do not know that the data they gave will be used in one way or another.
As I read the news, it seems like there is a growing distrust between the users of the worldwide web and the users of the data provided on the web. Most of us would be likely to think that people who have our information will not do us any good. They are more likely to use our data to harm us in certain ways. One of the many would be to price the products and services you would likely to buy on a higher price based on your past online shopping behaviors. Or perhaps they might be spying your online behavior, infringing your privacy.
It is weird, isn't it. May be it is just me and my environment. I don't think I have much human rights and privacy to begin with in the first place due to my environment. Yet, the funny thing is when news such as surveillance of the internet usage and data gets reported and come into light, I still feel that it is infringing our rights to freedom and privacy. Truth is, we may never really had real freedom in the first place.
Right, even we may not have that, life still goes on. I will jot down some of the things that happened today at work. I got to learn an important lesson: If you don't stand up and protect yourself, no one else will. Normally when you are out in the society working, you will only have yourself to depend on and believe in. Even when things are none of your business, when something is wrong people will just point fingers. In my case, I am the one who always just pointed at being the most junior in my team while handling most of the administrative and inputting and analyzing initial data. So when something is missing, I will just be the first one forced to take the blame. After some investigation, it was found out that the file was scanned by someone else in the team, and no apologies was given. That's work. I may just complain to friends, to family or perhaps rant here on my blog reflecting how immature I am. The inevitable fact is such things will definitely happen again. I will just have to learn to voice out my unhappiness and stop others from putting the blame on me before investigating the matter. One more additional goal on my to-dos list!
Just a while ago, I was thinking of what to do and engage myself in so that I will be motivated and look forward for each day. Then, it hits me that it is just a few days to go to December. A month when most of the courses are open for enrollment. I am currently thinking of gain an additional diploma relating to programming, however, such courses are real in my country. There are quite a number of bachelor/degree for such courses, diploma, not as much. However, bachelor/degree simply cost too much. The most important thing is I would like to gain an additional certificate while I can so that I would be able to secure a job position which I am passionate and interested about. Even if I might be like the company, I could carry on working simply because I like what I am doing. For now, I will just have to pull through everyday and keep myself positive.
The post is getting long. Since when I became such a long winded person? Work? No, I should stop blaming work. Perhaps it's because I missed a post yesterday resulting in this long post of thoughts accumulated these two days.
So, I should stop here. It's nearing weekend now that is around two hours to Friday! The day that working adults look forward. Time to play and have some fun. Well, have a good rest and enjoy the upcoming weekends.
Be kind to others even though they might not be kind to you. And the world might just be an easier place for all of us to live in.
