Today, I had a chance to try out the mechanical keyboard with red switches. It was the KBTalking Race II, a 75% keyboard. I realize that red requires quite an amount of strength to press the keys down and it does not have any actuation point which makes me bottom out the keys quite often. The structure of the keyboard is quite different from the one that my cousin gave it to the. It does not have an additional inner plate as compared to the cooler master TK that my cousin gave to me.
Apart from that, I guess it will take some time to use to typing on reds. Gaming would probably be good to use this keyboard as the keys are registered without much force. It makes double tapping and spamming the keys a lot easier as compared to other switches. Of course, this is what I think about it, you might have a different preference altogether and it really depends on one personal preference when it comes to the choice of switches.
After trying out the blues, the browns and the reds, I must say, I would like the feel of browns the most because it feels great while typing. Somehow my fingers are the most comfortable when I am using brown switches. I am not professional and I can't describe how exactly brown is different from the other switches and why do I prefer brown. What I can say is every switch has it's own unique feel, and it depends on yourself as to which switch will suit you best.
If you are planning to purchase a mechanical keyboard and thinking about reading reviews on the switches online, then you may not be making a wise decision. Online research is important for you to make an informed decision, however, experience how the switches feel while typing is also really important especially when it comes to mechanical keyboard. You would not want to spend a few hundred dollars buying a keyboard that does not suit you. It may not be worth it. Unless you have a close friend or relative who is collecting mechanical keyboard like I do, then you may try to get it from them for free.
Well, overall, it is not a bad experience for me and I gain a lot out of this spark of curiosity. At least, I begin to understand why some people could go so far as to collecting the mechanical keyboards available in the market. Even though I understand, it does not mean that I will follow suit. Unfortunately, I value money a lot more as compared to having a good keyboard to type on.
That's pretty much sums up my view on the switches that I have experienced these few months. The ones which I have not tried would be topre, black, white, green and clear switches. Topre is quite impossible because till now I know of no one who owns a topre keyboard. The next switch I am going to experience it would definitely be the black switches which are readily available in the market.
So, I will post an update if I manage to do that some day. Until then, enjoy your day and smile more.
Nothing beats a day with one happy smile on your face. (Though I don't do that at all)
